Trickery dealing with Address2
Normally, your address2 line, if not blank, contains something like a suite number. But, when sending mail, having the suite number just above the city/state/zip line runs counter to the Post Office's guideline for going bottom-to-top from general to specific.

Joe Smith
450 Main Street
Ste. 125
Ann Arbor, MI 48103

is not as correct as:

Joe Smith
Ste. 125
450 Main Street
Ann Arbor, MI 48103

For a variety of reasons, virtually nobody uses the second format above.

The first format works OK, but is somewhat suboptimal (and, perhaps, illogical).

A "good" tradeoff would be:

Joe Smith
450 Main Street, Ste. 125
Ann Arbor, MI 48103

which combines the two address lines on a single line.

But what do you do if both the address1 and address2 lines happen to be quite long? In that case, they should, they must each have their own line.

Fortunately, Dime-O-Gold has a couple of built-in "Smart Address" algorithms that help with this process. For now (i.e. until our configuration tool is done), this is configurable only through the dymogold.ini file.

Addr12Method can be set to one of three values:
  1. Verbatim. Address lines are printed to the label just as they appear in GoldMine.
  2. COMBINESHORTADDR2. If the length of address2 is less than or equal to the value of addr2LenBreak, it will be appended to Address1; otherwise it will get its own line.
  3. Combination. If the total length of address1 + address2 is less than or equal to the value of comboLenBreak, address2 will be appended to Address1; otherwise it will get its own line.

The default method is Combination.
The default value for comboLenBreak is 60.

Editor's note: these settings are now managed through the configuration tool, dime-o-config.exe.
